Sonic Youth

Sonic Youth was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1981. Founding members Kim Gordon (bass, vocals, guitar), Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), and Lee Ranaldo (guitar, vocals) remained together throughout the band’s history. Steve Shelley (drums) joined in 1985, completing the core lineup. Known for their experimental approach, Sonic Youth emerged from the no wave art and music scene, later becoming a prominent noise rock band. They redefined rock guitar by using unconventional tunings and preparing guitars with objects like drumsticks and screwdrivers.
